The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 2008 and the Communications Workers of America Local 6508 unions today endorsed Bill Halter’s campaign for lieutenant governor.

The Communications Workers of America Union Local 6508 represents clerical, non-clerical and outside plant workers within the Telecommunications Industry in Little Rock and South Arkansas areas. They also represent a printer sector in Little Rock.  “We strive to make sure our members are being treated fairly by the companies we work for and that our benefits and wages are adequate to support our families,” said Barbara Copeland, vice-president of the CWA Local 6508.  “We are endorsing Bill Halter because we believe he is the best choice for lieutenant governor to work with us to help our members.”

“Bill believes that every Arkansan should have the right to a fair and equitable wage,” continued Copeland. “He believes medical coverage should be a right for all Arkansans and not just a privilege of few and those teachers deserve to be paid what they are worth for they are our future in the knowledge they instill in our children. We believe his heart lies with the citizens of Arkansas and is the best candidate for labor and our Great State.”

“We believe Bill Halter is the best person to represent and fight for the interests of labor unions and working men and women in Arkansas as our state’s next lieutenant governor,” said UFCW President Charles Lee.  “Bill Halter has had a long association with us, ever since he bagged groceries at Kroger and earned a college scholarship from the UFCW.”  UFCW Local 2008 is one of the largest labor unions in the state of Arkansas, helping workers to achieve better wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.  Local 2008 represents over 5,500 members in Arkansas and southwest Missouri in the retail and wholesale food industry, poultry and meat processing and packing, healthcare and health services, barbers, laboratory science, and the shoe manufacturing industry.
