SLATER ENDORSES HALTER – JOINS STEERING COMMITTEE

Former Arkansas Legislator and Associate Justice Join Prominent Fayetteville Attorney to Endorse Halter and Serve on Steering Committee

 

Little RockFormer U.S. Secretary of Transportation and native Arkansan Rodney E. Slater today endorsed Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter and joined his steering committee.

 

“I have known Bill for over twenty years,” remarked Slater.  “Our state and the Democratic Party are fortunate to have such a talented, knowledgeable and forward-thinking person seeking the Lieutenant Governor’s office.  With his government and business background, enthusiasm and bold ideas, I believe Bill represents the type of leadership our state needs as we move into the future.”

 

Slater previously held a number of prominent positions in Arkansas: Former Special Assistant for Economic and Community Programs and Former Executive Assistant for Community and Minority Affairs to then-Governor Bill Clinton; Former Director of Government Relations, Arkansas State University; Former Assistant Attorney General, Litigation Division of the Arkansas State Attorney General’s Office; Former Secretary-Treasurer, Arkansas Bar Association; Member and later Chairman, Arkansas State Highway Commission, (1987-1992).

 

Former Arkansas Legislator, Associate Justice, Clinton-Gore Official Endorses Halter, Joins Steering Committee

 

Attorney Richard Mays, a former Arkansas legislator from Pulaski County and Associate Justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court from 1980 to 1981 under appointment of Governor Bill Clinton endorsed Halter and will also serve on his steering committee. In 1992, Mays served as a member of the Clinton-Gore National Finance Committee and later as a National Co-Chairman of the Presidential Inaugural Committee. He is currently a partner of the Little Rock law firm Mays, Byrd and Associates.

 

Prominent Fayetteville Attorney Endorses Halter and Joins Steering Committee

 

Prominent attorney with the Fayetteville-based Bassett Law Firm Vince Chaddick also endorsed Halter and joined the campaign’s steering committee.

”As a parent of school-aged children, I’m compelled by Bill’s emphasis on substantively improving education in Arkansas,” said Chaddick. “As the son of parents nearing retirement age, I admire Bill’s courage in defending the role and function of Social Security in our state. And, as a proud but hopeful Arkansan, I’m convinced Bill’s ideas and determination will create a more prosperous and healthy citizenry.”
